The super secret Marshall Hall channel used only for events in that area of Charles County is one step closer in identification!

Since its establishment a couple years ago attempts have been made to identify the frequency and talk group. Apparently under orders never to reveal the information, officials and members play ignorant of the particulars. All apparatus in Charles County use the 800 MHz TRS, yet the officials who should or do know the details profess no knowledge. However, it was discovered that Charles is sharing the Fairfax Virginal TRS for communications in the Marshall Hall area. RR has three talk groups listed which are atypical of those indicated in the Charles data base. However, nothing is heard on those talk groups when there is an event in the Marshall Hall area.

The purpose of the dedicated Marshall Hall channel is to sidestep the "dead" area encountered by TRS units responding. Despite the numerous assurances by the peddlers of the system prior to its $20 million construction that there would be "no where" that the system would not be effective, Marshall Hall communications were another matter.
Since Fairfax is in direct line of sight of Marshall Hall, the powers that be courted Fairfax officials for permission to utilize their TRS for Marshall Hall operations.

The more monitors of the Charles County TRS listen to the Fairfax TRS during Marshall Hall operations the more likely the talk group will be discovered. Anyone having information regarding the Marshall Hall channel is invited to respond.

Good luck!

Ooh, I was JUST wondering about this. They had a river rescue going on last night (2-4am 04/27/2009), and staging operations were at the Marshall Hall boat ramp. They mostly used Fire/EMS Tactical 3, but the command person also told everyone to use that TGID or use the Marshall Hall "Fire Channel 5" I think. Possibly also mentioned was a "Channel 1", so there's probably a couple of TGIDs on the Fairfax system they've got access to. I believe that last night, they had the two systems simulcasted, because the communications indicated that participants could use either channel.

I need a better antenna to pick up Fairfax from Waldorf. My RH77CA kinda gets bits and pieces, but it gets mangled quite a bit. Almost sounds like encryption most of the time because of the distance.

Yep, that woke me up too! I think the Coast Guard rescued the subjects. It's interesting that the Fairfax data base for their TRS is devoid of the new talkgroup as well as that of Charles County. After over a year of detective work attempting to find the secret talkgroup, an individual provided me the information regarding the Fairfax system. Only then did I hear it for myself during a call.

I find a simple discone works quite well, or if you are in the "fringes" might want to think about a yagi.

Keep us informend!

The Fairfax database is updated now w/ the new TGID, down in the "Other" category. For the Charles database, probably a mention should be made in the notes at the top (much to the chagrin of the Charles radio people that'll see it and then plot a new TGID on another system), but I don't think they'd put an actual TGID entry, since it doesn't technically exist on the Charles system.

Yeah, pondering a desktop discone, since putting up an outside discone would be really difficult right now. I have a thread open in the Antennas forum on this very subject that I'm going to reply to later, once I fix my computers at home.
