Yeah Lyon county is pretty antiquated... I live in Lincoln county right next door to the West, and i listen to their system all the time.
The biggest problem is not that they are VHF but that they are not even narrowband compliant yet. Lincoln county is the only P25 digital county down here, everyone else is still running off stuff thats ancient.
Their big argument is should they upgrade the current VHF system or put money into going to 800Mhz and be ready for ARMER. Most of the counties down here are doing their own thing and refusing ARMER, and for good reasons. None of them can afford to upgrade their current system which does work and has the coverage needed, let alone spend millions to go to a crappy 800Mhz system that might take years to get the same coverage as the VHF systems in use now.
I'm hoping they tell ARMER to stick it and just upgrade to a newer VHF system, nobody in Lyon county wants a tax hike over it.
