Hi, I'm just looking for some info about the Trucking capabilities aroung the area. i have a BC898T which ive owned for years but never had to do trunking and i really dount understand it that well. so im looking for some help on that. and also i am wanting to buy a new scanner and am thinking of a handheld i have been looking at the bc346xt or the bc396xt. The only thing is one cost alot more than the other whcih i dont really have the cash right now but i keep reading about the SIRN and the project 25...so the question is here can i get the 346 and still listen to what i want to for now?? or should i wait and save up and get the 396?? thanks

Hey ehill and welcome to RR nice to meet you:)

My opinion would be just to save your money so you can purchase the 396 at a later time. More and more agencies are in the process of switching over to the SIRN and are no longer using their older legacy systems. I see you are in the northern panhandle and hopefully another member will chime in and post a more detailed answer about the systems in your area to further help you out.

73s and hope this helps some

Chad is correct. In Ohio Co, most of the public safety traffic is on WVSIRN (P25 digital) and requires a digital scanner. The city of Wheeling Police / Fire are on an analog TRS that you can pick up on an analog trunking scanner. In Marshall Co, they still have a lot of activity on VHF, but Marshall Co SO and Benwood PD are on WVSIRN (again, P25 digital).

So you want to save up your money and buy a digital scanner -- a Uniden BCD396[X]T or BCD996[X]T or a Radio Shack PRO-197 or 106, or a GRE PSR 500 / 600 / 800.

Also, since you're in Moundsville, you may be inclined to monitor the Belmont Co trunked system or the Ohio MARCS trunked system. The Belmont system is digital for law enforcment / analog for Fire/EMS. Ohio MARCS is digital.

Digital is the way to go.
