Governor signs Executive Order establishing a statewide interoperability plan for first responders, public safety officials, and law enforcement agencies

ANNAPOLIS (Au. 1, 2008) – Governor Martin O’Malley on July 10 announced the development of the Maryland State Communications Interoperability Program, and signed an Executive Order that establishes a statewide communications interoperability plan, which will enable emergency first responders, public safety officials and all law enforcement agencies to communicate reliably, rapidly and instantaneously thus enhancing public safety across the State.

Will this be the primary response communication system emergency personnel, or will each County's TRS still be the primary and this is a back up and mutual aid system?

When a true radio technician or radio operator hears a polititcian use the word "Interoperability" they cringe. that word is a four letter word to us, it is used as a buzzword by polititcians and those in public safty communications who are only in their positions because of nepotisim and not because of any radio communications experience or knowledge to vie for grant money. with more and more states/cities/counties and small towns building trunk systems and digital systems for no other reason then "thats what the salesman said would work" the further away they get from any kind of radio interoperability. Interoperability has been around since the beginning of radio, it was used during the titanic rescue in 1912, what has recently slowed down any kind of radio interoperability is the very same technology that these polititcians tout as the cure for lack of interoperability. no black box or computer device can ever replace a trained radio operator/technician acting as the interface between multiple radio nets, recent events in NJ have just proven that.
