• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello. I Have a question I hope someone could answer? I have a xts5000 700/800mhz radio and Im trying to program it for trunking. Ive been trying like crazy to get this radio to work. Does anyone know if you need a system generator key to program this radio. Ive been watching videos on how to get a key but i cant find anything . Or if anyone knows where I can bring it to have it programed that would be great! I have a xts5000 vhf and thats a piece of cake compared to trunking. I just want to listen on it. Not transmit! Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks:)

Yes, you do need a system key to program a trunked system. If you don't know what you're doing (and by your own admission, you don't), you should stop now and buy a scanner. Messing around trying to program a radio on a trunked system when you don't know what you're doing can be dangerous and cause issues on the system which can put someone's life in danger.

To answer your "where to go to get it programmed" question: You are not going to find any legitimate Motorola shop, or any radio shop for that matter to program a radio on a system it is not authorized on. IE if you dont have a legitimate radio ID on the system and permission from the state radio shop, no professional will do this for you. Ask if you want a good laugh. Also, the more you ask the "pros" to do stuff like that, the more "security minded" they may become ie "geez, we really need more encryption". Leave well enough alone, doing stupid stuff that could have consquences in the system at large does not help those that like to listen.

That XTS 5000 will not work in about a year or maybe up to 2 on the MSP system because it is going phase 2 digital.

The new system will be using P25 radio authentication so if you don't have a legitimate radio id on the system *AND* have it associated with your specific radio serial number, you could have a problem to include a bricked radio!

Yes you need a system key to edit any trunking parameters in motorola CPS. No, nobody who has it legitimately is likely to give it to you. Its possible to "make one" but not the best idea. You can do "non affiliate" scan if its set up properly but you still need to put in a radio ID that you could have made up and, worse, could belong to a legit user of the system. Then you do something wrong and it keys the emergency button for example, it could be a bad day.

Dont play with a system like that unless you are a legitimate user with the proper knowledge not to screw things up.

Just find the site on that system that's closest to you and just put the voice channels in a Conventional scan. Set up a scan list. Make a ID list in Conventional and listen to the system that way. Thats the way I do it. Works pretty good.
