Maui Scanning

Well, I guess I'm the first one to post anything about Hawaii and I'm from California. I just got back from Maui today.

Regardless of what it says about not being able to monitor the Maui County LTR Multinet system, it's perfectly possible to do so. You can't monitor it in trunk mode so no TG's but it works fine in FM mode. You need the following frequencies:

866.1000
868.2625
866.7375
867.9625
867.7125

The system is not very busy so most traffic stays on the same frequency for at least a few minutes. Occasionally, you'll get a dead air carrier and have to press the scan button to get the active frequency but I was able to monitor about 95% of the incidents just like a conventional FM system. Since you can't program talk groups, you're stuck listening to the road department and such sometimes but we had flash floods the first day I was there so it was pretty interesting. The police seem to have a pretty laid back attitude. I never heard or witnessed a traffic stop in the whole eight days I was there.

The Kahalui Airport is policed completely by armed, private security. The PD only responds if there's a problem. They are on 453.325 and 463.95.

Haleakula National Park rangers are on 169.550 and busy in the morning when everyone comes up to watch the sunrise.

There are many hotels with private security as well and the marine band can be quite active at times. I have a P96 file for Maui so PM me if you'd like to have it.

I'll be doing an inter-island tour (honeymoon) for 2 weeks with 6 days on Maui.

Just in the process of putting together a file for my 250.

I have the LTR Multinet headaches here in PA with Chester county. Thank you for the pointers on the Maui system. Or system hops freq's wery often. It's also a very busy system.

Did you happen to stumble across and aero medical freq's while there?

Staying in Lahaina area.

There are tons of tourist helicopters that operate in the 120 mHz range. The only medical or rescue helo activity I heard was from the USCG, as Mark suggested. All the flood evacs were being done by the Coast Guard and the one medical transport I heard was also by the Coast Guard. Most of the traffic was on 157.05, 157.100, and 157.150. All medic traffic is on 453.25 FM conventional. This frequency is used for both dispatch and ambulance to hospital traffic. I heard the Coast Guard helo on this frequency when they were doing the medical transport but never heard them on any of the LTR freqs so I suspect the CG helos don't have LTR radios.

maui monitoring

maui system is completely monitorable in conventional with no talkgroups.. used to monitor it alot when i was still living on the Big Island, all of the maui county services transferred over to the LTR Multi-net system in June of 2001. Actually Wackenhut guards OGG but you will notice the Sheriffs mosey around. They park in the south east corner of the parking lot, right by the baggage claim.

As for your MPD laid back attitude remark. . . . you must have kept a low profile.

As for aeromedical frequencies, we have one frequency for ringdown and dispatch and BSing.

No reason to complicate it everyone does on the mainland.
