That is DMR my friends. MFD is going to have 700 MHz DMR (TRBO) on scene coms. So you may only hear MFD dispatch and some FG's on AWIN in the future.

I am guessing no scanners will receive whatever DMR (TRBO) is? So much for interoperability. As big as Maumelle is, they could use a single VHF channel with used radios, and do just fine.

Seems VERY shortsighted to me -- moving to MotoTRBO. It might be a little cheaper in the short run ---- but Maumelle FD has standing agreements with North Little Rock FD and Oak Grove FD for mutual aid. Both just worked an apartment fire in Maumelle along with MFD. Wonder how that will work with MFD using MotoTRBO? Not well, I'd imagine.

MFD has already invested in AWIN radios and whatever infrastructure costs were involved in moving to AWIN -- now they are going to put up an entirely new system that doesn't work with anyone else ?!?!? List me as saying that it isn't very smart. But it is gov't at work.

Sounds like Greene Co.

We got EMS, Sheriff's Dept, Paragould PD, Paragould FD, State Police, County Rescue and County FD's all on different systems, all UHF Nexedge digital systems except County FD's. But they're all on their own systems and nobody talks to anybody else because they aren't able to with all the different systems, so when you mention interoperability and all that jazz it's nothing new for us, and it doesn't work, looks like Maumelle is about to find out the same way Greene Co will, the hard way..

I talked with the MFD person at the Interop Conference in July. They are putting repeaters on their Engines so that they can reach folks inside buildings for fireground use. Those repeaters will also relay to the AWIN FG TGs so that dispatch and others away from the incident can also hear/talk. They have a couple of hills that block enough of the AWIN sites that they have dangerous situations in a number of structures. Their radios will switch between AWIN and mobile repeater as needed to maintain contact. So --- it actually sounds like a pretty good plan. It is not online yet - but they are close.
