Ok, I finally purchased some new RG8X coax and a maxrad mfb-8133 antenna. Anyone ever used this particular antenna before, or have any comments on it? I hope this will work better than the setup I have now. I'm fairly deaf in the 800mhz range with the wideband antenna I have. I'm going to slide that antenna down a few feet on the mast and install the maxrad on the top. Also, any suggestions on grounding the antenna or any others as far as that goes? I want to be sure I get everything done before I raise up the mast and lock it down for good.

I will be using about 150' of RG8X coax and the antenna will be right at 75' up on a tower and I'm using a pro 95 scanner just so you will know what all I will be using. I have already driven an 8' ground rod at the base of the tower for any necessary grounding purposes.

I did some reading on the coax that I have and I am wondering if I should stay with the rg6qs for the lower loss numbers even though its 75ohm? Or will the rg8x be better? All I want to recieve is 800mhz and thats it.

Those antennas that you purchased were actually good-buys, but if you really want to find great and convenient antennas, specifically mobile radio antennas, you can read the Maxrad Mobile Radio Antenna Line Catalog by Maxrad.

Good Lord, you never give up up, do you? :(

With a 175 foot run and wanting to listen to 800, you need something like Times or Belden 9913 cable. The loss at 900 MHz using RG8x is about 4 times the loss of 9913 cable. You are going to lose all your potential height gain advantage unless you use high quality cable.
