Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello,

The topic has been in discussion for years without any real headway... basically we want to use a Maxtrac 16 pin model to do some sort of station alerting. The goal is to have a bell ring for a short amount of time <3 seconds... then open up audio over a PA system for up to a minute... Any suggestions?

Does the radio you want to use have QCII decode capability? IIRC, some of the MaxTracs needed an option board installed to handle QCII?

If not, you might be better served with a CDM1250 or 1550 as they have QCII built in, rather than trying to find an option board.

Also, many of the MaxTracs may not do narrowband, but the CDM's will.

The management of the accessory pins is pretty much the same for all of them.

I would suggest skipping this, and getting a Swissphone pager, with base unit. We are only using the relay output, which triggers the house bells. (We are toned out on a VHF simulcast of our digital 800MHz system. The audio is not in sync, and we monitor the digital system.)

While I havn't tried it you can set the tone decode to horn honk. Then change the settings for your 3-4 sec relay output. BTW Motorola radios don't all work with Plectron signaling. The only one I had success with was a JT1000. As far as the Maxtrac not being narrow band on VHF there be no new adjacent users, on UHF if you don't get interference now, you more than likely will not then either, and low band it does not apply.
