I will give you some info on just how a Maxtrac will work on a trunking system. One
main reason that there are not many left in service is that the radio will not work
on any splinter channels. The radio will cover these channels in the conventional
mode of operation, but not in the trunking mode.
Motorola made the decision many years ago not to update the firmware in the
Maxtrac radio to allow it to do the splinter channels. This was a marketing ploy to
get the users to buy new radios.
I have used a Maxtrac on a type II trunking system only as long as standard channels
are used for the control and voice channels. If you manage to obtain the newer
firmware chip, just remember when you try to program the radio and it won't
accept the channel, I told you so.
