• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If you have a real Smartnet MaxTrac, you have to take the hex given here and convert it to decimal before the radio will accept it. You cannot use the decimal conversion that the scanners take because you'll get a number that the radio doesn't accept.

Now, if you have a Privacy Plus MaxTrac and are trying to get it to work typeII, while it can be done with a program called h2f, you're better off just buying a Spectra or scanner, or something that comes TypeII already.

Unless the firmware PROM has been changed in the Maxtrac, the radio will not do type II trunking. You need to go read the mobile information area on Maxtrac radios in www.batlabs.com.

Second limitation using Maxtrac radios to listen to type II trunking is that the radio will not do splinter channels in the trunking mode. There are very few systems around today that are not using splinter trunking channels.

If you have the Motorola RSS program to configure the radio, you need to make sure the radio is not set to affiliate on the system. You need to make sure you have disabled the transmitter. Many people have disconnected the + 12 volts to the PA and pulled the drive cable. going to the PA section.

If you can get around all this and still feel the radio is what you want, have fun programming the talk groups. There use to be a good section on this site that went through the conversion of the talk group numbers. The way I have always done it was to get the HEX number from the database on this site. Then used the calculator program that is included with windows. Put the calculator program into the scientific mode. Put it into the HEX mode. Enter the HEX value and then click on DECIMAl. It will give you the DECIMALvalue. Just add the 80000 number to that value and you have the correct number to be entered into the Maxtrac.
