So far got a job there in the city. I am looking for a few places to live but if I move is there anyone listens to scanners there? I see no one has the fire tone outs. Do they use the VHF to page out stations?

Not sure about any of the emergency use in the radio...I use to live in Panama City Beach in Bay Pointe Resort while I worked at one of the Go Cart tracks on Thomas Drive. Mostly during the morning/mid afternoon if your on the beach or near Thomas Drive or Middle Beach you'll hear the beach police and fire/ems responding to calls. For traffic Thomas Dr & Front Beach is the traffic jam galore.

I took my scanner with me on vacation there 3 weeks ago. I had it programmed with marine frequencies which I really didn't hear a peep from, and the bay county system which covers pd, fd, ems, street department crews and a few dog catchers. I got tired of the constant chatter from the police pretty quick and just left it stopped on the ems dispatch channel and still heard enough to keep my attention. I can tell you there is plenty there to listen to.

Just got back from there yesterday. The TRS has all of your public safety needs, not sure what you mean by VHF fire tone outs. If your scanner does the Milair band it was pretty hopping this past week with live fire exercises shooting down drones over the gulf. US Navy Hornets (VFA-15) and Super Hornets (VFA-213 & VFA-31) as well as USMC Harriers (VMA-214) & RAF Lakenheath F-15Cs were taking part in that. All using the call sign of ACES xx. Then you had instructors and students taking their F-22s up day and night for Air Refuelings and manuever/dogfighting training. Your a lucky duck to be moving there.

Panama City is a target rich environment for a scanner hobbyist. What is lacking in the area is a dedicated Radio Reference member to help ID many of the undocumented talkgroups and frequencies. Were I live I can only pick them up from time to time. Other users are only there for vacation so they don't have the time to put in the many hours to ID all the stuff that is available. Again pretty much everything is in the clear out there.

Lakenheath F-15Cs were taking part in that.

Well I guess that confirms what I looking at last night. Was searching the net for some new un-IDed hex codes that had shown up on the radar box last night. From what I found others had IDed them as Lakenheath F-15's. My first ever fighter class hex codes knowingly logged. :D

AC-130's firing up at Hurlburt as I type this. As already stated that area, heck most of the entire northern Gulf Coast for that matter, is a VERY target rich environment for just about every genre of radio comms there is.

I should be down there the end of the month. After I get set up in a place and work I'll be scanning and searching etc.... I am not sure if they page out stations on vhf I was looking for Fire Tone Outs. I see they are on 800 system. Also I see Gulf Power is trunking system but I'll try to figure that one out.

I used to provide the main feed for PD, Fire, EMS, and SO. I only was able to for a couple of months though, before I moved to Tallahassee for school. On most nights I had 30 listeners. Everyone wants to listen, but no one wants to be a feed provider haha. The clarity is really quite amazing. If you live in the city or surrounding municipalities you can hear everything on the public services trunking system crystal clear. There is, in fact, so many talk groups you have to program just the ones you want and lock out all the others. It took me a good week to lock out all of the random talk groups that came across that I didn't want.

I was providing a ton of direct from the source verified info on the system such as how all the talkgroups were labeled in the system on the radios and what TG was for what, then it seemed like someone would wanna submit their own name or what they think it should be. I have a ton of info on this system from the admin of it. i also have extensive info on the UHF and VHF conv freqs used around bay county.

The answer to your question on fire is: County EOC dispatches for Fire and do the initial Dispatch the call outs for fire on both the Talkgroup and the VHF pager channel then the respective truck or unit will then goto the proper Tac channel (talkgroup) to work the call. if you have more questions just let me know

We are going down there in a couple of weeks. What kind of position did you take down there? I would like to live there also.

Also plan to do some scanning :)
