Can this scanner be programmed with software like the 436 is with Sentinel or do you have to manually program it?

It does not come with any software and does not contain a national database like the 436.

If you are a paying member of Radio Reference you can download the data from there using free software like Freescan to program it, or just take the data from the RR website and program it in the Freescan software or manually in the radio, which is more tedious.

ARC XT is another programming software, but there is a cost.

Just like with Freescan, you need to be a RR premium subscriber to download data for programming. It's a good investment because all the correct settings are imported too. Definitely a time and frustration saver.

ARC XT and Freescan are both great choices for software.
