Interesting... Your profile says Houston.

Here is the database link for
McCreary County Kentucky

You can find the codes in the database. Maybe they're switching over soon, but right now it looks like they're VHF High band.

The codes for
their Fire and EMS are there.

What model scanner do you have now?

It will take for a unknown type of digital WHISTLER TRX to scan the most possibilities or a UNIDEN 325p2 996p2 436 536 SDS100 SDS200 with a $50 DMR or $50 NXDN upgrade key to scan the possibilities

This is a real tough question to answer, believe it or not.

First the easiest part: There are no cheap scanners that will deal with digital signals - they all are costly. Depending on some "things" you could get by at $370 to as much as $500-600.

If they are going to a standard Project 25 digital, then you can get by with the lower cost Uniden 325P2.

If they are going a different route, such as DMR (aka MotoTrbo) which is what the database shows for EMS dispatch, you are looking at the Uniden BCD 436 HP with its base price of $490. On top of that you have to purchase the upgrade for that "flavor" of digital. That costs $90. (All prices are off the Scannermaster website).

There is another type of digital, that being NXDN. If they are using that, you are looking at the Uniden 436 with the NXDN upgrade.

So you really need to be sure just exactly what they are using so you don't buy the wrong thing.

I suspect you are fairly new to digital. Just like you have different kinds of screws (SAE, fine thread, coarse thread and metric) there are different types of digital. It's not easy to find out which specific type is in use. The average responder may not be "tech savvy" enough to know, so you probably can't grab the next one you see and ask them.

WRONG! A Bearcat BCD-996P2 is $335 on Amazon.com and everything you tell this guy is all NEGATIVE! Let him just purchase the BCD-996P2/BCD-325P2, he can try it for 30 days and if it doesn't work out, he sends it back for a full refund and free shipping on Amazon.com too just by merely printing out a return shipping label. WOW, is that so hard to do?? You guys on here are too technical and get the "average" new user so confused. I know you mean well.
Have a good Saturday.

I'm sorry you feel I was being negative. I thought I was writing this to someone fairly new to the game and tried to make it as simple as I can.

If we say "get XYZ" from Amazon and he ends up trying to monitor something beyond the scanner's capabilities, he will be frustrated. So I tried to lay things out so he would be a little more informed to make an intelligent decision rather than just tossing a dart and see if it sticks.
