Does anyone here at RR know the setup for the Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia? I’ve tried searching thru the 380-400 group but haven’t found anything yet. The Ft Benning RR database works great.

I do know the Marines take their security very, very seriously here. I was stopped at the gate one morning and told to remove my GPS from the window (not just turn it off-REMOVE IT). I told the Gate Guard I knew radar detectors were not allowed but GPS?????? He said I could be mapping the locations of the installation. I asked him if he ever did a GOOGLE Map Search?

When I got to my office I called the Security Office and was told the Guard was incorrect and would be properly instructed. GPS was allowed on the Base.

Thanks in advance.

Happy scanning,

I am venturing to guess they are encrypted. I know most Federal/Mil are now

Thanks for the reply. I was actually being lazy and hoped to find someone in the Albany area that had already located the frequencies and setup. Using my PRO-106, I can now hear Ft Benning (outside Columbus) using the RR Database. Most of their transmissions are in the clear.

Guess I’ll have to turn on the scanner during lunch and do some searching. Based on Ft Benning, I had checked the 380-400 range other day without getting a hit. Based on what I’ve seen here on RR, I might also try the 139-150 range to see what I pick up. That seems to be the other range of frequencies used by the military base/post units. Think I’ll also post a request under “Military Monitoring” to get some other suggested search locations.

Based on your location, I was going to ask you about your luck in monitoring Moody AFB but noticed the letter from Moody asking that their information be removed from RR.

Thanks and happy scanning,

I can tell you with 100% certainty that with the exception of Air to Air having to be public for safety reasons, that base operations IS digital encrypted on Moody

First, it was trunking, then digital, then re-banding. I got left behind. Now between encryption, cell phone and in-car computers I feel our scanning days are numbered. With all the “free” federal grants (who’s pocket did it come from?) and aggressive radio sales more and more small counties and towns have moved on up to repeaters, encryption and systems that don’t allow monitoring at all.

Oh well, I’ll keep listening for as long as I can.

Happy scanning,

I kind of agree, I can see encryption taking over in the next few years, but a lot of rural counties, like Cook where I live, can't afford all of that yet, but grants do change.
