MCS/MTS2000 Question

Hello everybody,

Probably a simple question, but can the MCS/MTS series radios be setup to operate on two separate analog TRS's? For example, can one radio be programmed to operate on a local TRS and then to a county TRS with the switch of a the channel selector (noting that the TRS's use different frequency sets)? Thanks,

Not too sure about the MCS/MTS but I do know that you can do this with STX series radios.

Yes, all Motorola trunking portables are capable of multiple systems if you have the proper system keys.

They sure can be set up on multiple systems. The MTS/MCS are cousins, so programming is pretty similar for both. I would set up your systems and talkgroups, then have a zone for each system. You can use multiple zones if you have many talkgroups. If you MTS is a top display model, then it will 48 talkgroups total. You can set the ABC switch to switch between zones, and then use the 16 position rotatry switch to switch between talkgroups. On the display models, you can do the same thing, or you can use the keypad to switch zones. The MCS is similar, except it's easier to switch zones.

My advice would be to sit down with Excel and map out how you want your radio to be programmed. Figure out what talkgroups in what zones and what their display names will be. This makes things so much easier.

Thanks Jeff, I wish I had a MTS/MCS of my own to play around with. I was just trying to figure out how the radios were set up where I work. I got it all figured out now, thanks for the help,
