To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,
I have an MCS2000 II I am trying to program. I amm able to read the radio, make the necessary changes to the program and I have saved the changed code plug. When I try to program the radio, I get the messsage " The model number does not match the model number being programmed. "

Any thoughts or possible solutions.

Thanks,
MSF

Well, I assume the model number matches the radio? I have been programming multiple radios and accidentally went to write the wrong radio before so it happens

I've had that when the control head options were changed. Go back and double check EVERYTHING.

Let's backtrack here and walk me through everything.
-You read the radio successfully right?
-Then you made what changes to the radio?
-You never unplugged the radio while doing this?
-Is the radio a remote head? If so did you plug the cable into the head or the brick?
-When you wrote to the same radio it gave you that error?
-Have you tried a different comm port/different computer? (if applicable)

After powerup it gives you what error?

Z4xx?

are you sure it's not Z4 (space) then 2"x"s?

The Z is for zone, the next digit would be the zone numeric indicator, and the Xs could be programmed in as a channel name.

Yes, read the radio successfully,
changed the personalities,
never unplugged radio
remote head, tried first to program thru the head, no luck
able to read radio through brick using rim plug.
tried with an xp computer no luck and got what results I got on a dos box
on power up, get self check msg. When reading , get a programming message, when I try to write the code plug in, get the wrong model message, the the screen on the remote head reverts to Z4XX with no space between Z4 and the x’s
also, I’m using a Polaris pa1 rib

Do you have 4 zones programmed in the radio, by any chance? I think you're seeing the zone/channel display, and not an error message.

...and what's the model # on the chassis & head configuration (model 1 , model 2 head..)?
