• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have two questions. I use an HT1250 most of the time, if it matters for the questions:

1. Is there anyway to change the MDC PTT sound? The steady beep is really really annoying

2. How do you set (if at all) an HT1250 to decode both MDC PTT ID's and Quik Call II tones?

1. Yes the beep can be changed/turned off through the CPS software. Bear with me as I do not have the software in front of me, but if you go to Signaling>MDC>*your mdc system here*, there are several options for PTT sidetones. There is an option for a tone while the MDC is sent (about 3/4 second long), and an option for a tone after the MDC is sent (just a quick beep).

2. Again, both can be set up through the CPS software. The PTT ID's decode option has to be enabled for each individual channel. As for the QCII tones, I'm guessing you want to use the radio as a pager? I know how to do that, but I need to see the software to explain how to do that. If you're not trying to use the QCII tones for paging functions, then I'm not sure what you are trying to do.

I know I'll have access to the software tomorrow afternoon, possibly tonight. If you like, I can probably make screenshots to show what you have to do.

1. I discovered the option for the MDC sidetone. It stinks the options are a quick beep or the long beep. The long beep is very annoying, and the quick beep screws you up because you don't key it. I will have to live with the long sidetone, but I wish it sounded like the way it does with the XTS and other units.

2. I guess I didn't phrase my question correctly. I have one of my conventional personalities currently setup to use my Quik Call system as a signaling system, but I wanted to know if there was a way to have it so that it could also decode the PTT ID's as well. If not, I will attempt to live with out the Quik Call on this channel, I mean if you hear dispatch, you shouldn't really need a tone to tell you, unless you are in the paging mode, which is it's own conventional personality, but I would like both, if possible.
