MDICE P25 Phase 1 question

I listen to Champaign County (IL) Police and Fire scanner all the time online. I was thinking about purchasing a scanner, wondering if they can be programmed to only output ONE of the talk-groups, not the entire city’s output.
For instance, if I only wanted to hear Rantoul Police- i would listen to Patrol 2, i think.....Can it be programmed for just that one group?

quick answer is...yes. looking at the RR database it appears that Patrol 2 can be monitored but Ops2 is encrypted meaning you will not hear anything.

I did notice that, but thats ok because right now i don’t hear ops2 anyway listening to the online broadcast.
Is there a specific scanner capability i need to make sure to purchase to be able to program just that one talkgroup? Thanks for your information and input!!!

if you program one of the uniden home patrol by zipcode you'll hear evrythimg. but if you program any of the P25-capable scanners then, yes, you can configure a single talkgroup as a 'Favorite'. you can also program other favorites each with oneor more talkgroups but they will only be scanned if you select them to be scanned.

one suggestion...if it were me i'd look for a Phase 2 capable scanner. Champaign County is currently Phase 1 but you might want to be ready for the if and when...
