To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

How do you get a MDX to go to full 0 level (off) when depressing the volume control?

No matter how it is programmed, the radio always maintains a minimum volume floor.

What other volume settings are there other than what is in ProGrammer?

MDX Volume

In the programming you have a min. volume and you have a power on volume. You need to set the min. volume to "0"

Have done that.

Like a minimum volume level has been set and can't be changed for some unkown reason with the software. Weird.

That is weird, havn't heard of that happening. ProGrammer doesn't have anything different to solve your problem.

Truly a mystery.

Thought it might be just a messed up radio. The behavior has been experienced on three different MDXs, though.

The volume control increments up and down properly. It just won't go down to lower levels. Like it somehow has gotten fixed at a minimum setting that can't be
reset.

Just an FYI - I have two of my own MDX's, one 800 EDACS and one high band VHF and neither will go to a "0" volume even when "0" is set in the ProGrammer.

Probably a safety thing so it can't be turned down too far.
But those MDX's can really crank up nice though.

If any of you are interested I have my high split VHF MDX that has a receive issue but I will let it go cheap.
Its a harder to find 128 channel remote mount radio with 40 watts out.
It is not receiving very well anymore so I pulled it out of the vehicle and its been sitting in the shop for a few months.
At a minimum you could use the logic board out of it and turn a 16 channel radio into a 128 channel radio.....
PM me if any of you are interested in making an offer.
Thanks, Tom/G

Thanks all for the replies.

Must be hard preset no matter what the software implies. Wish it was clearly documented.

Yes, the MDXs are loud. Too much so at times.

The MDX model radio will not adjust to 0 volume level. I asked M/A-COM TAC and was told that the radio design will not allow for this even if the programmed setting is at "0".

Thanks for getting the final verdict. All is normal with my MDX.
