MECA sounded great this week

At the risk of all kinds of problems with comments, I'll post my experience this week in Indy.

I was in town this week, downtown at Crowne Plaza-Union station and MECA sounded great on both my BCD396t and my Pro-106

In fact I thought the clarity was better than Safe-T, both at home and in the Indy downtown, though I only was receiving site 12. (Which I believe is only a block or so away?)

The only problems I heard were on IHERN (MECA) rebroadcasting "junk" from outside the County. The second problem was the occasionally second radio in a conversation was muffled or fuzzy, I heard this most often on the EMS-hospital channels. In one EMS-ER conversation, the EMS unit kept telling to “doctor” to keep repeating because he was so muffled/fuzzy sounding. The other side was crystal clear however.

I was impressed by the clarity and signal strength on my scanner, though I was on the first floor surrounded by structural steel.

Yep, MECA sounds great downtown. With the transmitters on top of the Chase (former Bank One) Tower and little interference from other MECA satellite transmitters, the signal is pretty good most places within a few miles of the Circle. But there are still lots of places elsewhere in the county where a scanner with an omni-directional antenna is going to have trouble receiving a signal that it can decode.

IHERN always sounds like **. That's nothing new. But you'd have to be really bored to be monitoring the IHERN anyway.

Does not sound like this on the Indianapolis Northwest Side from 71Street and Michigan Road all the way to 96Th and Michigan Road.It is great when you are in the downtown area but once you get away from the downtown area that is where you hear the problems.Nothing has been done on the Northwest Side of Indianapolis.I talked with another Good Friend of mine who is a member of RadioReference.Com who lives in my same area and he told me yesterday 7-10-2010 at The Indianapolis Hamfest that also he was having problems getting MECA on his Digital Scanner.He also provides a audio link for MECA for Fire and EMS.I would like to entend a "Invite" to Alpha Bravo one to come to the NW Side of Indianapolis and see and hear the problem.Viper 43 and GTO 04 have been hear and they have seen and heard the problems in my area.

At the risk of fueling the fire, I hear garbled transmissions on my 96 in the car with the standard duck antenna at South Street and Madison Avenue. However when I get 2nd story elevation, it goes away. However I have heard it clear as a bell 3 miles west of Plainfield.....
