Med-Flight on 800 MHZ! Analog

Today around 11:00 AM, the following talk-groups became very active

30224 - Helicopter (Unit 91) talking to a base station in Tulsa (OKC ?). 91 was reporting flight data and arrival time for Tulsa around 12:30 PM. Helicopter (Unit 92) conducting radio test while in flight.

Ground stations conducting radio test.

***None of the above was heard on the 460 Mhz EMSA frequencies

***Heard Med-Flight 1 and Med-Flight 2 talking to each other while both in the air.

All communications was in Analog!

I'm in OKC and I caught some of that traffic late last night. I'd say it was probably around 2am. I didn't hear much of it...i'm pretty sure I caught the tail end of it. I thought it was my scanner being goofy because previous to that, I had a talk group of 9776 pop up and heard someone say "10-4, i'll be 10-8."

So now I can slug that tg(30224) as Med Flight!

I heard them on the Tulsa system. When I heard them, I was off East 41st Place and South Peoria. Heard them on my Pro 96. The last time I heard them was around 2 PM. They doing radio test again! Taking about increasing the power.

I was wanting to invest in a Pro-96. I know what it can do etc. but my main concern is does it do better with all the Nex Tell and Cell interferance in the city then say my Pro-95 would? I can't stand it in some places in the city. It just wipes my signal out to nothing. Yes the antenuator helps a little but sometimes makes it worse. Also how is the audio? Is it better then the 95? Over all are you happy with it?

I like the Pro96 and have not had any trouble with the Nextel or the others bleeding over. The digital modulation is great on the 800 mhz and the 162-174 mhz also. I have use it when listening to the 406-420 mhz federal trunked in many parts of the USA and the 96 does an excellent job there also. A few months ago, while visiting in Minnesota I ran into some digital commercial electric co-ops on 451 Mhz decoded the digital crisp and clear. When I am in Tennessee, I pick up the TNHP on lowband with no problems.

I am very pleased with the Pro 96.

I talked to both the MediFlight base in OKC, and one of their aircraft which was also in OKC, today on the Tulsa Life Flight talkgroup. I have talked to their base a couple times in the last few days. Glad to have them onboard the 800 system.

I got the chance to hear them for the first time this evening. Pretty neat. They sounded kind of quiet, like their audio was low. I wonder if they are using the 800 system or just being simulcasted onto the 800 for future use? Glad to hear them on there.

I heard them today and stuck the old (462.950MHz) frequency in my other scanner. They are NOT simulcasting... They have 800MHz radios in the aircraft.

Sounds to me like they are switching their entire operation over to 800 and they seem to be much happier with the radios.

Let's see, that means each ship has a tuneable VHF radio, a tuneable UHF radio, now an 800MHz radio, an aircraft radio (or two) not to mention the navigational radios.... It's amazing the things get off the ground at all. :wink:

Thanks for confirming that they are on now on 800 and not simulcasting. I thought that they might have been simulacasting because that's what Life Flight here in Tulsa does. Thanks and happy scanning.

I have seen a few medical choppers with MDT's on board.
