Has the Medford Fire freq. - changed? I haven't heard anything in several days. Even the morning radio test, nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Effective 11/20/08, Medford FD is operating on 482.1375 156.7.

There is a program under way to convert all of the Hi-Band District 13 FDs to UHF. Lexington and Everett have already converted. For a listing showing all of the new freqs, visit www.bostonsparks.org.

Malden, Melrose, Saugus and Lynn will be in a later group than Revere, Chelsea and Everett because (I believe) they rely on a different funding source.

Lexington and Medford self-funded and have been converted.

In addition to the VHF-to-UHF conversions, the program includes new UHF channels for Waltham and additional new UHF channels for MetroFire. I am not aware of any firm schedules for these.

Correct. Revere, Chelsea, and Everett are part of the Metro Boston Homeland Security Region. They got federal money, as did Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, and I think Winthrop, to upgrade their radio systems. There is still some build out to go. On the EMS side there is a new Boston Ambulance Mutual Aid (BAMA) channel on UHF that all of the privates who operate in Boston and the area will have access to.

Upgrades include new mobiles and portables, base station upgrades (in some cases), and a rebuild of the Boston trunk system.

The none MBHSR cities and towns have to use other funding sources to build their systems.

Lynn, Chelsea and Revere are almost fully changed over. Everett is all the way over, no VHF anymore. Waltham is ready to go, waiting for a signature or something.[/QUOTE]

Chelsea changed over this past week 154.325 and their other VHF frequencies are now off the air.

Apparently Lynn does not currently have the funds to complete their system. Their license is among the ones that MBHSR requested construction time extensions for a couple of months ago. The extension filing indicated that some communities were applying for federal grants to fund their systems. Based on the recent statements about Lynn's budget situation in the Lynn Item, federal money is probably the only way that they will get it done.
