I was listening to the fire talkgroups today (SRFECC), and Medic 45 (Galt unit) reported to fire dispatch that they were beginning transport to Kaiser South, and gave a starting milege of 0.

I know police transports give starting milege, but I've never heard medic transports do it. Why do they? Is it because Galt is a little far away and transport takes a while? Or do they do it when they have a uncooperative patient?

A couple of reasons squads do this. One is if they charge on a per mile basis it is part of that documentation process. But more importantly it logs mileage and times in case the patient says they were taken out of the way to a secluded location and sexually assaulted by the crew. It also shows the patient was transported in a timely manner by a direct route.
