Hello everyone.
I'm in California, and I have a cousin in Medina OH that is wanting to listen to the Fire department for Medina Twp. which is Medina City? Also Medina City if it isn't.
Also the the rescue squad for medical calls (Primary reason). Are they on the MARCS system? Or the Parma, Medina, Ottawa System? UHF?
Is he going to need a SDS scanner for simulcast?
Scanner recommendations would help low cost. Used maybe?
Thanks, in advance.

There’s the “City of Medina, Ohio”, which of course is the Medina County seat. City of Medina FD, Medina Township FD and I believe, Montville Township FD all operate on the Parma/Medina County/Ottawa County P25 Phase II system (TG-3119) Uniden‘s SDS series scanners will likely be his best bet in the event simulcast distortion is an issue in that part of Medina County, although someone more familiar with that area on these forums may well be able to confirm whether or not that’s the case. The downside of the SDS series scanners is of course their price point. Now, if your cousin is a bit more tech savvy, although it really doesn’t require an MBA, a 160 IQ or both, a dedicated SDR radio for his computer will cost him considerably less than the rather semi-confiscatory SDS series scanners and in some areas, outperform those flagship models from Uniden. Just my two cents, FWIW. I’m quite sure there’ll be additional posts for this thread, in addition to a goldmine of information that can easily be found here on the RR site. Best of luck with whatever choice he ultimately makes!

Nearly everything in Medina county is on the Medina Co/Parma/system. Of course he would just want to program the Medina County Simulcast System. An SDS would be the way to go as the system is simulcast. The Highway Patrol is on the Marcs system, so programming the Seville Marcs site with the Medina Post talk group will get them. Fortunately, there’s little encryption in MedCo.

Isn’t there still a heavy Medina County fire presence on MARCS?

OSP is simulcast to Med Co/Parma on 3052. Medina City Fire is on the Medina system, but fire is still split between MARCS and Medina Co.

Nearly all fire dept traffic in Medina Co. is on MARCS, primarily. They had coverage issues in many places. They still use the county system for certain things and in certain places, but primary is MARCS.

Medina and Medina Township (PD,FD,EMS) are on the Parma P25 system (also MC Sheriff). County FD/EMS are all now on MARCS.

I have an SDS100, and live in Litchfield Ohio. I'm listening to P25 phase 1& phase 2. Can't find plow drivers for Medina co. Do they even have radios? Might be something else to listen to.

Not sure what the county highway uses, but you can listen to ODOT on MARCS. Medina is in District 3.
