Memorial Bridge new ops

The new Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth N.H has been using 151.085 pl 156.7.... I think the route 1 bridge is using it as well. I havent heard any talk on their old freq--151.115, 131.8..... From what I heard this morning, they are still balancing everything out- including computer readouts.

Until the Memorial is in PERFECT condition, theres alot of survey boats, crane, the Coast Guard tells you how far to stay away--if you are in a boat.

Yes, route 1, 95, and the new Memorial all go from Portsmouth to Kittery, route 1 and the Memorial raise up and down. 2 bridges, 2 ops freqs151.085-156.7 memorial bridge ops, 151.115-131.8 Sara Long ( route 1 ) bridge ops...If you are in the area, you can hear---

In the summer last year when it first opened, I would stand across in prescot park and watch them lift it up. Pretty impressive.

I'll make sure I have the 151 freq programmed into my pro-164

The Coast guard keeps announcing " due to undiagnosed mechanical problems,,,,,," on 156.800... You'd think they would have raised the area a little so the centerpeice does not have to raise that far...1-5 feet would have been nice. All it takes is 1 mishap to make that brand new bridge inopperable for hours, days, or worse, weeks. Thus keeping the fuelsships in or out of the drop-off area..

Since you visit Prescot Park, you can also run a mil-search to hear the simplex systems at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Kittery Harbor Master, Dave, listens to the marine vhf, more into building docks than patrol.. Coast guard handles EVERYTHING in that river. Also the NH Marine patrol comes out of hibernation about May 1st--159.150--p25. Not to be misheard on 159.1425-p25, Dover NH pd input.. Thats ALL I got, now, get US something I missed.. LOL

Hahaha, yeah, put those wiki freqs in, that'll keep you busy up here. Also, when those tall ships come in, you wont find many GMRS freqs NOT being used. I think I'll run down there tomorrow, and do a signal stalk/fed search. Verify Coast Guard vhf warnings about the bridge.

I have not ventured there yet. Although I have never seen a big ship trying to go under the bridge there. How big are the big ships?

I did hear the Naval yard Fire on my pro-164 yesterday. Not much activity there.

The TALL ships, 1800's ( year ) style, 40 foot high beams with sails all over, I assure you, they are BIG, they will probably go in at lo-tide. Watch the Portsmouth Herald Newspaper.. When they come to town, so do 5,000 anxious eyes to see the spectacle. They dock at the State pier by route 1.. Cant miss 'em

Did you say actual oil tankers go under that bridge? These tankers draw like like what 30 ft of water fully loaded?

Yep, oil tankers come and go constantly causing the bridge to lift--aka, traffic stops. Thats when you take the HIGH RISE bridge.. Aka-- 95..... Plus you get a tide differencial. 9 foot diffence basicly between high and lo tide. Boat goes in at low tide-- dont need to lift bridge as far up as you would at high tide..

When I was in Portsmouth on Friday, both bridges were being lifted. 151.115 was silent, but 151.085 was in use. Oh, and the Memorial Bridge carries Route 1, and the Long Bridge carries the Bypass.

Now that summer is coming (excluding today where I was scrapping ice off my windshield), I will be try to get to prescott more often. I only saw the bridge lifted once and it was a test as no ships were coming.
