Memphis Coverage

Just spent a week in Memphis-loved every minute of it. It seemed like the coverage of the Shelby County Smartnet system was weak-I lost half of the transmissions or lost the control channel entirely on my SDS often in buildings. Tried multiple antennas, filter settings, etc. Is it the system or just me? I saw in another post that the city plans to build more towers in the process of cutting over to their new phase I system. I did notice the cops all seemed to have the shoulder mics with antennas on them, so maybe the coverage has always just been on the weak side. Graceland was especially bad-very weak signal in the exhibits. (Aside from that, Graceland was awesome!)

I have found that 800 scanners are weak receivers. Places that I cannot pick up the Bartlett 700 system on a scanner are easily received on a city issued handheld. Generally the Memphis/Shelby system coverage is good, but if you go into a building with a lot of steel or concrete, the coverage will be spotty.
