If it is encrypted then the answer is yes. If it is just digital then the answer is no as as long as it is APCO-25.

With a Pro-97 you will be guaranteed to hear nothing on any digital system. It is highly unlikely they will use a lot of encryption. The bigger the city the less likely they are to encrypt all of their communcations. More than likely, they will be like Nashville and encrypt only a few sensitive talkgroups like certain SWAT operations.

I would think that maybe fire and ems would not be encrypted. Maybe some police. I don't live in that area so I don't know.

Does anyone have info that Memphis will have a totally encrypted system?

Per officers on MPD, and from a dispatcher on MFD- There will be some encryption for sensitive Ops,.. but most ops will be in the clear. I will talk to a freind of the folks I live with who is a dispatcher for Shelby Co. SO, and see what thier plans may be.

If you live in Memphis and want to listen to MPD when, if they are not already, they go to APCO 25 then don't give up your PRO-96. A PRO-97 won't give you that option. Like everybody has said only a few sensitive talk groups would be encrypted.
