Memphis Light, Power & Water - APCO25 Confirmed!!!

Confirmed this morning while driving through Memphis that the Memphis Light, Power & Water 800Mhz trunked system is indeed APCO-25!!!

I take that to mean that you monitored the system today. That would make sence if they were changing out that system first to work out any problems that they may have before tackeling the public safety police/fire system. sounds good I think the police/fire system will follow shortly. It will be up and running before they start to issue radios that they already have.

Then you can expect City of Memphis PS to be switched this year for sure.

I think so. I was told that they wuold be giving out the new radios within the next 6 months and they will have to have the system up before they give them out. I think they will have it up for a month or so before they give them out. so it is a matter of if they give them out and do a switch all at once or if they give them out and have a patch to the VSELP and operate om both systems for a wile just in case anything goes wrong. We had both systems when they went from the old 12 channel conventional system and went to the VSELP but you turned in your old radio and they gave you a new one I don't know what they will do but I'll let you know when it happens.

The system was quite busy this morning as well.

Residential electrical connects/disconnects, the central distribution control center taking circuits off-line for maintenance, etc.

Audio is very good on the south side of Memphis (airport area south to state line).

Several talkgroups identified - see the database for details.

Has anyone heard any police traffic on the mlgw system? The MPD N/E pct had a patch for the far reaches of the county until the city gets the new public safety system.

Seems like there may have been some very routine (and brief) traffic on the system during my monitoring that MIGHT have been PD-related.

My ears were tuned into more of the utility-type transmissions to identify users, so I might have glossed right over them.

I did hear a couple of radio-type tests with the routine 1, 2, 3... type counts.

Anyone in Memphis got a PRO-96, PRO-2096, BC250D, BC296D, or BC785D and monitoring the system?
