Memphis Police/Motorola 1996 News Release

I did a google search to see if I could find anything on the new Memphis Motorola improvements/changes now underway. Thought one item was interesting. This is from the 1996 Motorola news release. Some of the systems may have things in common but the original Memphis system wasn't one of them, since it was totally digital encrypted. Don't know about your area, but around here politicians can't agree on anything, whether it deals with public safety or not. By the way, tower construction is underway for the 2005 system.

Actually the VSELP's are fully compatable with the original Analog Smartnet/Smartzones, and with Type I's..... You could easily set up patched TG's back and forth. Example- Warren County, MS, and the City of Vicksburg, MS... Vicksburg is the County Seat of Warren County... Vicksburg runs an ASTRO *non VSELP* Smartnet, Warren runs *currently* an ASTRO VSELP... Both systems mesh without any issues... Also the Warren system is tied to the Hinds County, MS ASTRO, the Washington County system, the Rankin County System...

Future changes will be upgrade of Warren County's to the newest ASTRO platform, moving the City of Jackson, MS from its ancient EDACS to the Hinds County ASTRO, upgrading the City of Madison, MS's from a Type I, to an ASTRO type II...then linking not only all of them together, but adding the new City of Ridgeland, MS's ASTRO in the mix, creating the probable base for what will be a Statewide ASTRO, or ASTRO-25 TRS.

I imagine the ShelbyCo/Memphis ASTRO will be studied closely as THP tries to get funding to build its own TRS. If it works as good as say the Metro Nashville, and KnoxCo/Knoxville systems are.... Then things might roll up within say 5 years.
