Ok, I've got the bug!
I stumbled across this site a couple of days ago while surfing Katrina info, and now I think that I need to get in on the scanning.

I've tried to read thru the threads for the Memphis area so that I would have some clue but...it sounds like I'm going to need a top-of-the-line scanner to get in on the action.
If I understand what's going on, my choices are the Rad Shack Pro 96 or the Uniden 396..? correct?

I know that this is the most asked question but... what are my best options/suggestions for getting started for the Memphis area?

Thanks in advance,
JD

This site is the best resource. I'm brand new to scanning myself, but I've already made some great friends here. And yes, you will need the $500-ish scanners to pick up the new Memphis Digital system. I bought the 396T, but it is currently in the shop for the silk print issue (see other threads). Based on what I can tell, I don't think you'll be going wrong with either the Uni or the RS. Personally I'd like to see you get the 396, but that's only so I'll have another person here locally to share files & setups with.

Good luck & welcome!

Welcome!! Glad to see the bug had bit another one. Just look around on this site and in the database and you'll find more information than you can shake a stick at!! :)

Like Vol said, you'll have to get a digital scanner, I've got a PRO-2096 and love it.(deskop of pro-96). Just personal preference. Anyways, welcome again. Also if you want to listen in on the system before you get a scanner, just click on the link in my signature.
