Hi all, I'm using the Unication G5 when driving through various areas of NJ and nearby. Has anyone found the Mercer County trunked system falling short? I was in downtown Princeton, not far from the old Princeton Boro police station and my G5 kept giving me out of range notifications. I switched to Somerset 700Mhz as I was headed home and the Somerset was blasting even in downtown Princeton. Anybody from Mercer LE or Fire notice shortcomings and/or all out dead areas? Bucks County PA also booms into Mercer County.

So it looks like the nearest transmitter to Princeton is back in Lawrenceville around Rt 1 & 295. Your G5 has a disadvantage in that it's picking up the UHF through an internal antenna which has historically proven weak. Still, even if your G5 were in cupholder of your vehicle while driving I would expect you to get something. In any case I have seen some weakness on that system though not to your extent. My SDS100 scanner which does not suffer from simulcast distortion and can be a decent receiver on T-band UHF, has lots of trouble picking up Mercer County from Bensalem, Pa and Eastampton, NJ both of which are less than 15 miles away.

Thanks for the reply. I was tossing it out to see if any first responders who use the Mercer system report or have noticed deficiencies in radio use.
