Does anyone know why Mercy Air 15 is taking over the air ambulance service in western Kern County? Just heard the announcement on KCFD dispatch channel.

Taking over probably isn't the correct term. Looks like they have Mercy 15 at Bakersfield. That would make them the closest air ambulance to that area and effectively they'd be first up for calls and "take over" that area if they're not on an interfacility transfer of course. I'm not sure offhand if there is another provider for Western Kern Co.

Med-Evac 1 signed off this morning (7/1) after 15 years of service. Then Mercy Air 15 stated they were available in Bakersfield. I guess Hall’s wanted to get out of the air ambulance business. They never really got any of the IFT flights into or out of Bakersfield. On a side note Mercy Air 14 has been based out of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital for the last four or five years now. From Mercy Air’s Facebook page.
After over 20 years of service in Kern County, the Med-Evac 1 air operation from Hall Ambulance has converted over to Mercy Air 15. Air Methods has been the aviation provider for the Hall Ambulance program for many years and as of today, their clinicians are now a part of our Mercy Air team as well! Welcome to the family!

Sounds like what American Ambulance did up here north of you. It was too expensive for them to maintain though the current provider kept the call signs “Skylife”. Dispatch is split for them. Prehospital is still handled by fresno EMS dispatch (American) and IFT is handled by “Aircom”.

There are almost no air IFT’s going out of Bakersfield, most are incoming. On the East side it is not unusual for Mercy Air -14 to have two or three IFT’s out of Ridgecrest. They just headed out on one a few minutes ago. They fly right over my house on the way in and on the way out of RRH.
