I was wondering how a merine radio could make telephone calls
i just wondered how it would work.

Do you mean MARINE RADIO?

I don't think they have that capability anymore, thru the Marine Operator. Atleast here on the RIGHT Coast.

a.) Key up the radio on the proper channel and Hail "Marine Operator"
b.) Unkey the mic
c.) Wait for a Reply [She was always busy]
d.) No Reply, Try again [Repeat a-c]
e.) If a Reply, advise your Calling Card Info or Calling Collect and the number
f.) Beep, you are connected.
g.) Remember, One Person talks at a time [Over]

Most of those Marine Operator channels are being converted into "Automated Radio Check Systems"
