I second Larry's holiday greeting and hope we all continue to enjoy this great hobby into 2014. I remember so vividly my frustration when trunking systems first were introduced. My short-sided brain said that the hobby that I loved was over as I knew it. I think we're facing a similar point now with TRBO and other new technologies. KEEP THE FAITH! With luck and new scanning technologies, we may enjoy our hobby for years to come. At least that's a new year's wish for 2014.
FYI - to all my friends - I no longer reside in the Atlanta metro area. I retired last week and we have moved to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains in Franklin, NC. Lots of great conventional UHF and VHF agencies here as well as the North Carolina VIPER statewide trunked network.

Commit a single P-25 scanner just for the GSM National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. What a joy to listen to their outstanding VHF repeater system! If only the metro ATL had systems like that. Enjoy your retirement. Try not to do to much gem hunting. Larry
From my house here in Franklin, I received a great signal on both the GSMNP and BRP P25 VHF systems, using only the back-of-set antenna. But then, my house is at about 2,800'. I'll do my best to stay out of the gem mines.
