Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a homicide that allegedly occurred after a Whitewater home was broken into at about noon today.

Scanner reports at that time indicated a 62-year-old man at 34999 Siminoe Road was not conscious and breathing and the home was ransacked.

The man appeared to be beaten up and was being helped by a woman inside the home, reports indicated.

The road off U.S. Highway 50 near Whitewater has been closed while deputies investigate the incident.

Mesa County sheriffs deputies are at a home in Whitewater where what started out as a possible robbery attempt or home invasion has now turned into a death investigation.

Information at this time is sketchy. Deputies have closed off the road leading to the home on 34999 Siminoe Road. That's off Highway 50. Investigators are talking to neighbors.

At this time, it's believed a suspect entered the home around noon and injured the homeowner. The incident happened shortly after noon Tuesday. We have a crew on the scene and will have more as it becomes available.
