This past Sunday, the major law agencies in Mesa County changed their ID numbers, at least for the purposes of radio communications.
This change was reportedly driven by the transition of the GJPD and MCSO to a new CAD and Records Management System. Fruita and Palisade PD's have also changed, possibly due to their using this system as well. The new ID numbers are 4 digits instead of the former 3.
It doesn't appear that the changes affect smaller, outlying agencies, or those at the state and federal level. The Debeque Marshal was monitored using the same 3-digit ID this week. This supports a theory that the number change was required for the Records Management side, with the same identifier being applied to the unit's CAD presence for the sake of simplicity. Smart move.
Numbers monitored thus far are as follows:
GJPD - 3000 Series
3200 - Sergeants
3400 - Patrol Division
MCSO - 2000 Series
2100 - Command Staff (includes Captains and Lieutenants)
2200 - Sergeants
2300 - Deputies
Fruita PD - 4000 series
4300 - Patrol Officers
4400 - Command / Administration (?)
Palisade PD - 5000 Series
5300 - Patrol Officers
It's been noticed that the MCSO ID's may create some confusion in practical use, as many of them are identical to military time references. A hypothetical exchange might be:
"Adam 2351, I'm clear of that stop, CNA."
"Adam 2351, Copy, at 2310."
"George 2310, are you calling me?"
In fairness, no such exchange or confusion has been monitored as yet.
The alpha designators to indicate patrol zone or other duty assignment, i.e. "T" for traffic units and "R" for School Resource, appears to have remained the same.
