From what I understand the reason to use these voices is that it, at this time, is the only option westnet (their station alerting system provider) offers. The positives of using their system as a whole, as opposed to just certain parts of it, for the stability of the station alerting, outweigh the negatives of the computerized voice. The important call info is sent to the MDT's in the trucks so hearing the specific call info in the stations isn't as important. Although for us listeners it still blows! This is what I was told.
