the local papers are reporting that the Methuen pd are in the process of switching over to narrow-band digital for their communications.

They made the switch last week. Seems like it is going to be full time, as the chief loves the sound of it. Same frequency for primary operations: 482.4625R P25 NAC 983. Watch the Fire Department in the next coming weeks as they plan on switching to UHF Narrowband, they have licensed 471.6625, 472.7000, and Lawrence Police's primary (expired license) freq of 482.5625.

Methuen FD and Lawrence PD have come to an agreement, several months ago and Lawrence will remain on 482.5625 and Methuen will take 484.925 instead. They're still waiting, going on 5 months, since the letter of agreement was sent into the FCC.

Methuens new uhf system still sits on the floor in the boxes they came in.Due to the fact that the city is trying to do the dispatch room using city workers, instead of letting a communications company do it.As we speak the room is still torn apart, wires hanging from ceiling etc(low bid)

Is the PD ahead of schedule? I thought the changeover wasn't going to happen until the Spring! I guess I should reprogram the scanner so they can be heard on my feed LOL.

Any word on whether or not they plan to encrypt some day?

They were probably trying to make the Jan 01, 2013 deadline for Narrowbanding. They don't seem to have any immediate inclinations to go encrypted, but that can happen at any second.
