First of all, for Sgt. Scarbrough's family after his recent death on I-94. Does anybody know what the callsigns like 49Tom or 46Robert mean? It seems like they get dispatched to the same types of runs as everyone else.

If I do recall from my days with the FD down there that 4*Tom is a Terminal unit and 4*Robert is a ramp unit. Its been awhile so it might have changed.

Another question about Metro Airport. Is the FD toned out on any frequencies because I do not hear the dispatch on the TRS talkgroup, just somebody advising that they are on the air for the run.

Thanks..and no.. I believe that FD is dispatched via phone, etc. But for major incidents (Class II or III emergencies), they do put the info out on the radio.

In the stations there are two phone that hang on the walls a black phone and a red phone. When the FD is needed for any type of an emergency not involving an aircraft emergency the black phone rings at both station 100 and 200. Central dispatches the units as needed. For a class 1, and 2 alert the red phone or tower phone rings and the control cab supervisor relays info to both stations on the inbound emergency. A class 3 alert a ear piercing crash horn is activated in the stations and all the lights pop on and the doors go up and the tower will relay info over the phone to the shift commander and give hime the ground freq. What is heard on the AFD TG during a class one or two is the shift commander relaying the info from the tower to all responding units just incase they did not catch the info the first time around.
