If a moderator wants to kill this, or move it...so be it. Didn't know where to put something like this, but want Sacramento people to know about this place.

I just found the greatest store for all the little parts, connectors, testers, wire, etc. that you could ever want. I'll never visit RadioShack again. Run by a bunch of knowledgeable and helpful guys. Support the local store...especially the specialty places like this!

Oh yeh! Been there a few times myself, and, being in the Placerville area, they will even ship it to you. I think it's cheaper than gas and time. Only bad thing I can think of is the parking situation, easy to lose track of time in there, have to feed the meter. Good place to go since Radio Place closed. Norm kc6zwt.

Almost forgot, another great place: HSC. I can't tell you how to get there, would have to get the maps out, look it up in the phone book. Off Madison and College Oak??? Lots of parts and widgets. Also, don't forget Fry's out by the airport, lots of electronic parts and goodies there also. Norm.

I've been to both HSC & Metro Electronics dozens of times. HSC is a surplus store but, depending on what you're looking for, new items as well. Metro is ideal for this hobby.

HSC is at 4837 Amber Lane, visible from the corner of Auburn Blvd & College Oak. You can get there via I-80 by exiting Madison Ave or the Auburn Blvd 244 ramp.

Last I knew HSC has a web site related to their store in San Jose. But I have not checked it out in a year or so. I do not know about Metro.

RS is a consumer store.
Metro & HSC are electronics (hobbyists) stores.
You get what you pay for.

Personally, I didn't think their prices were bad at all. What I went in for (stuff to make a pair of DB9 connectors) actually came out right where RadioShack would have been. And the salesman didn't have the "Uhh...dunno bout that stuff" thing going on.

It was work related, so I stopped while in uniform...didn't have to feed the meter with a marked patrol vehicle.

I went there today, and saw that they had some rechargeable batteries for things like cordless phones and other random devices. Couldn't say if they have that...dunno what the 245 battery even looks like (AA I suppose?)

Radio Brackets

Would either one of these places have a universal radio mounting bracket? I need a bracket for my Bendix King LMH radio, and it is out of production. Rat Shack doesn't carry their universal brackets anymore, and the radio is just a little bit wider than most standard radios.

Well that website leaves a lot to be desired, it only lists the manufacturers of the products they sell - not the products themselves. And I wish the BC245 battery was AA, but it's a 4 cell NiCad, model BP-180.

You folks got it right. Metro Rocks. I've been going there off and on for years. Lots of local broadcast engineers and hams go there. I just went there today to get a new power suppoy for my ICR3. I brought the radio and the old power supply in and they helped me find just the right one. It's not by icom, but it's a beefy, regulated, switching supply. They're hams too and they got a kick out of the R3. They all crowded round to check out the radio. Cool folks that will go the extra mile for you. Bill's right in saying that we have to support the local guys. they have better quality than RadioShrug. I don't have any ties to the store and this is not a commercial. It's all about local. they will special order for you too. I'd like to see them carry radios, but I guiess the market isn't big enough. It bugs me to have to get my radios from Fry's or the like. I miss the Radio Place. There's a lesson there. 73's to you all

i went to HSC yesterday. picked up some adaptors. that place is like a treasure trove of little doo dads and do hickies, and their prices are amazing. there was a rackmounted network 100 switch for 10 bucks with 25 ports. amazing.

next to try: Metro.
