Hi,

I have been out of scanning for about a year and a half. Due to personal circumstaces, I had to sell both my Uniden BC-396XLT and GRE PSR-500 handhelds. At the time, the Metro frequencies were rebanded. Since this was while ago, I am sure this topic has been discussed all over the place.

However, if I purchased either of these scanners this summer, would they be compatible withthe Metro system, without using charts and mathamaticall communications.

Also, I am looking into the GRE PSR-800. Has anyone had experience using this to monitor Nashville Fire Dept. (rebanded). Is this a quality product to stand along withtthe other two?

Again, please excuse my ignorance, but I have not followed scanning (a hobby of over 25 years) but am looking forward to jumping back in.

Thank you for any help,
Chris Larkin

I notice in the RR Database that a new P25 system is being installed. What is the current status of monitoring the NPD? Are they still on the Type II SmartZone or have they moved to the Project 25 Phase I system? I will be in the area next week and would like to check out their system.

Thanks........

Status on Metro Nashville PD

@xm4kie

Metro Nashville is still on the Motorola Type II SmartZone system. Just be sure to program in the correct control channels. Also, most of the police talkgroups will be on System A. All of that information is of course available in the database. FYI - The Project 25 Phase I system is one that is still in the works and only used for a handful of testing reasons at the moment.

Not all will be encrypted. Just TAC and talk around if those. SWAT, Vice and any sensitive stuff yes will be full time encrypted (strapped on). Dispatch for all sectors will be in the clear. I'd imagine Fire would be in the clear but who knows. Encryption is stupid. Just so they can cuss on the radio now and hide stuff the public should know but they don't want you to know. Why not just ban live streaming. I wish RR would be forced to take ALL of their live streaming down. But either way on these apps you don't know what channels your listening to since it doesn't show on the phone. I just wish I could find a black market programmer to help me out. Oops did I just say that? The govt can kiss my donkey!!!

While I will on every blue moon or so log on to a feed, I have long wondered why they are permitted. Unless the law has changed you are not supposed to rebroadcast or repeat the contents of a transmission without consent from agency. I also remember big federal fines were levied. And if I'm not mistaken that warning used to be boldly printed in the old "Radio Call" frequency books Gene Hughes used to publish. Just sayin,
BG..

I seriously doubt the main channels will be in the dark. I was dispatching Central today and some of the officers were advising each other they could not talk to each other on the tac channel if one radio was not upgraded.

Fully Comfirmed

Full ADP on the P25 System for PD Dispatch and Admin and mabye some of Fire

There about 40% moved over to it and simulcasting Hence the issues using the Tac channels

Then the switch is complete CLICK silent scanners

You can thank the Streamesrs and RR for this

LOL...

Can you advise some sort of reference for this about RR and streamers being responsible?

This will be so fun and easy to verify. Neither were even brought up in the discussions

OK Here is the Info on the Lockout

"Now the 'scanner buffs' have gone so far as to stream that audio to the internet on numerous sites, and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to prevent it as of yet but there is Talk of Legislation to stop this .
the new system, and all public-safety and Fire/EMS talkgroups with the exception of the primary dispatch Zone P1 will be ADP encrypted. That means that the admin and other discrete TG's will no longer be able to be heard on a scanner, so that should eliminate our radio traffic being overheard and streamed as long as those conversations are not on one of the Primary dispatch channels. But we will have the option to Encrypt the P1 Zones as needed
as we transition to encryption on the P25 System the "scanner Buffs and Streamer problem will effectively go away"

Effectively - based on what you have just reported - not much is changing other than the additional talk groups being encrypted, such as the admin channels. These channels are not even broadcasted anyway - and we agree... they shouldn't be. However, the dispatch channels will continue to be in the clear, at least for now, but what is the purpose of even encrypting those? The fact is that there is at least a thirty second delay in the time that communication hits the air.

Here's our take on it: We do not feel that the information (at least on dispatch) is privileged or only for employees of the department. According to the FCC, there's nothing prohibiting the public from actively listening to that information. Don't misunderstand us - we fully support the local government in terms of our first responders. Our goal is not to put any one's safety at risk, and ultimately if it comes down to it we will comply with removing the metro feeds we broadcast. For now, though, we don't see any harm in allowing the general public to access it.

@vans113

A little off topic but we would suggest that the BCT 8 is not a digital scanner. That's likely why you're just hearing voices on occasion because it's unable to follow the digital talk groups.
