The Metro Transit Police freq 161.385 has dropped the PL tone (179.9) and is now operating in CSQ mode. I was wondering why I wasn't hearing them anymore. They also appear to have a new, much clearer transmitter or they have done something to clear up the simulcast from their trunked system.

That explains why I haven't heard them recently - I took off the ctcss tone & now getting them again. From downtown DC they're not coming in any clearer on either my pro-96 or other older analog scanners.

When I lived in the area, they were CSQ on 161.385 with the 179.9 tone on the input only. I was surprised to see the submission reporting the 179.9 tone on the output. I guess the output tone was temporary.

As a matter of fact, the answer is YES. Sure, there are all the mundane happenings like with any police department, however, they also have their share of major crime responses. Drunken fights, muggings, cuttings/stabbings, an occasional murder, along with all the mayhem that occurs in PG and DC near or on Metro property are often heard. The subway system seems to be the latest escape route for all the thugs in the area - whether chased on foot or after a vehicle bailout. (We won't mention the wisdom of doing that but no one claimed the mooks are always playing with a full deck.) This police force is very often heard working with the county or metro PD guys. They are certainly much busier than the local city police forces out in the counties.
