I've been meaning to mention this little jewel of a police force on 161.385 mHz. It dawned on me this morning that I haven't heard them in a couple of days so set my PL/DPL scan to see if something changed. It did. They were using a PL of 179.9 but have changed to CSQ mode. That's why I wasn't hearing them. They also seem to have either gotten a new transmitter or cleaned up the simulcast from their trunked system and the signal is crystal clear (when they aren't talking over the top of each other).
If you don't have this plugged into your scanner, I'd recommend them. It is a very busy outfit that covers Prince George's, Montgomery, D.C. and Arlington VA. Their transmitters are also in PG and Montgomery so the signal is very strong up to Baltimore and beyond. Considering the territory they cover, you can understand why they are busy with so much crime and mayhem. They are often heard working with the county and Metro DC police forces. I hope they keep this VHF freq active since taking up a bank for a trunked transit system isn't worth it to me - at least until the next generation of Uniden scanners which will allow enough room for every trunk in the area to be programmed. I'd be interested to know how others hear this freq and from what locations.
