Station 17 is on the chopping block, according to JS interview with Chief Rohlfing. Any thoughts?

Disgusting and sad. I guess we’re moving more toward an unofficial Milwaukee/Waukesha consolidation of fire departments with a few carved up districts/battalions. This what happens when so called leadership in Milwaukee doesn’t care about public safety as the highest priority.

We'll see a lot more of the suburban departments filling in the edges of the city. Oak Creek, Saint Francis, Greenfield are all right there around 17. Basically, shared Services is making all of the MKE Co departments operationally one.

The map in the fox 6 story is a little outdated, as now you'll see the remainder of the burbs are either in the agreement or close to it.

Regardless of how the break up and redraw the lines, there should be NO station closures. Cutting overhead is the best way. Franklin, Oak Creek and Muskego could consolidate somehow. They have for many years had almost a defacto arrangement with Greendale, Hales Corners and Greenfield. The South Shore would be ideal for consolidation. West Allis, Wauwatosa, Butler and Elm Grove would work. Always amazing that in Wauwatosa that Engine 35 is closer to Wauwatosa proper as well as the now mothballed Engine 25.
So in the old days, MFD could do next to nothing if there was fire nearby unless a special request was made and hopefully approved.
As a decades long fire apparatus and FD overall fan, I hate to see legacy departments disappear, carved up or merged. But when it comes down to it, does it really make that much difference who's name is on the apparatus when a fire or medical emergency strikes. Granted, don't ever place a consolidated fire department under Milwaukee County government since that mess speaks for itself and another day. It would be interesting how a central dispatch center for the whole county plus part of eastern Waukesha would work.
