I recently acquired a MFJ-2289 antenna. It is a bracket that you can install two stainless steel telescopic antennas on a 45 degree angle to use as a dipole. I am trying to figure out something to mount it on. I have put together one mount using a piece of 1/2" CPVC pipe as regular 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipe is actually bigger. The CPVC is to flimsy to hold this bracket and antennas. I tried using a 1/2" wooden dowel and while it fits inside the bracket well it too cannot hold the weight of the bracket and antennas. Whatever I use it has to be non conductive. I am hoping that someone has one of these and I like to know what you mounted it on. MFJ says to mount it on a non-conductive pipe or wooden dowel and to not exceed 7/8" OD This is being used with a tripod for portable use. The tripod has a 1/2" NPT thread on the end.

Schedule 80 would be a lot stiffer, and a 10' piece shouldn't bend.
But I looked at the pdf for that antenna. I think they are saying to insulate the antenna from the mast. I don't think the non-conductive PVC or dowel need to be more than a few inches long. Just enough to where you don't have metal to metal from antenna to mast. I'm thinking a 4" piece of schedule 40 shouldn't flop around, maybe I'm wrong.
