Is dispatching still handled at the sub-station level, or has it been moved to Jackson? Thought I heard a Troop G car run a DL this evening through Jackson.

Each district does its own Dispatch still Matthew. But on a statewide TRS, such as the MSWIN, you can literally hear any troop from any location if another unit with that tg programmed in affiliates with a site near you. So say an Troop G trooper in District 1 (Troop C's area) and is working there for one reason or another, you could hear him talking to Jackson from a site in say Tupelo, if a unit with the tg he is using is affiliated with the site your monitoring. Which is why it is allways a great idea to have ALL State Level Public Safety Agencies dispatches programmed in to catch "unusual" traffic.

My son in law is trooper in "M" district in Brookhaven--he is always on the radio with other districts. As far as I know he is able to communicate with MHP dispatch just about anywhere within the state. Most of still have high band as well as a backup..

Thanks. Spoke with a guy that used to dispatch for MHP. Still going through the sub-stations. I could've been hearing things.

Possibly, but as I stated, on an Statewide Trunking System, you can literally hear anyone from anywhere at any time. Lets say I am a trooper for MHP, and I am assigned to D9TM. I get a special assignment to run up to DeSoto County to help out with something for some reason. While I am in DeSoto County, my mobile, and HT affiliate with any site that is in range and gives me a good capture signal wise. I will be using that District's TG for primary comms, as well as MHP State Wide possibly. Because my radios conceivably have every MHP TG, with priority set for D9's TG's, you can now hear traffic on not only all the MHP TG's in my radios, but also on any other TG's I may have programmed. This includes Regional Interops, State Wide Interops, maybe even County SO's and Municipal PD's TG's for the region I usually operate in. (Note the Wide notations are separate from State.... This is for a good reason, in the near future, Phase II usage will become much more prevalent, and there are also TDMA MHP TG's... These bear the Narrow labels, hence State Wide, and soon also State Narrow, just a heads up.) Not to mention, I can easily flip to any District's TG's, and talk directly to their dispatch from anywhere I have access to MSWIN. This will also apply t the TACN as it grows and spreads to Western TN next year. You will conceivably be able to hear THP Knoxville on an Memphis area site....

MHP Troops working outside their "home" district is not that uncommon. Especially during "events". Be it a bad weather event, or just some type of other special event. (e.g. escort duties, etc.) A-Team members, especially, travel all over in the escort role.

When they leave their home district it is pretty much required they check in with and monitor the district they are "visiting". Just like right now many F and G troopers are in, K and J, and working on their common and car-car channels. Same for MDOT Enforcement, some district T units are down south helping out right now too.

This is for a good reason, in the near future, Phase II usage will become much more prevalent, and there are also TDMA MHP TG's... These bear the Narrow labels, hence State Wide, and soon also State Narrow, just a heads up.....
