This was a long time coming, but I get at least 3 emails a week asking questions so here you go. Maybe the moderator can leave it as a sticky.
MDFR is the 6th largest FD in the USA based on sworn personnel, not units, and is the 4th busiest based on total fire/ems call volume.
MDFR is over 97% ALS Units, (We only have 5 BLS Units left) Ambulances are called Rescues (RA's) and are staffed with 2 FF/Paramedics and 1 LT or Capt and operate as Truck Companies at fires. All "suppression" apparatus have pumps, whether it's an Engine or a 100-foot Platform. Staffed with 4, 3 FF, 1 LT or Capt.
We are "built out" to 79 stations, with units going into service as budgeting progresses. We have an "impact fee" law whereas a unit MUST open as soon as the impact fees are collected for such a zone/district. The units go into service and roll out of a different station until built.
Hence the huge growth of our department in the last 25 years or so with no slowing done. We are always hiring "dual certified" FF/Paramedic.

Never knew there was a Wiki. We do NOT use the old claxon 2 tone, tone-outs anymore. All IP based Phoenix G2 system and has been that way for about 10 years now. Fully integrated with our cell phones as well.
