I'll be flying into and out of FLL in the next few weeks and on the return flight I'll be at the airport for ~5 hours. Can the Miami trunk system(s) be received from the airport or would it be a waste of time to program them?

Thanks!

I don't know if you will be able to monitor from inside the airport. I guess it depends what terminal you will be in. I would think that terminals 3 or 4 may be the best areas. I have monitored the Miami system from inside my car, with a handheld using a rubber duck antenna, while driving by FLL.

It's gonna be a longshot. I have been able to hear Miami from the southern parts of Broward County on my MRK portable, but in my experience, the airport is a little far north. Why not listen to Broward County while at the airport. Plenty of action here too.

If you were monitoring with an MRK, then you were probably listening to the Miami Dade TRS EDACS system. If the OP is talking about the Miami Dade County TRS, then no, he probably will not be able to hear it from FLL. I thought he was talking about the City of Miami Moto TRS system. If that's the case, I think he may have a shot, depending on where he happens to be within FLL. I've monitored them from just outside the airport.

Had a STX too. I worked at Braman Caddy in Miami, & I'd regularly listen to the City of Miami auto theft sub fleet as I found it quite entertaining. When the Feds were trying to send Ilyan Gonzalez back to his Dad in Cuba, I tried listening from Broward, & 441, but couldn't quite hear them, However, in the corner of the parts warehouse, they had installed a small cell phone amp, & when I stood near the amp, I was able to hear the City of Miami full quieting. Of course, this was in 1995-2001, so maybe the system has improved since then.

I think you may have typed that backwards.
Far more likely to hear M-D county in FLL than City of Miami. The county line is only 6 miles away. But the city, on the other hand.... much much much farther.

Thanks for the replies. I'll program it and see how it goes. Just looking for different things to listen to.
