I am hearing MICCOM toning out units.

did they junk the idea of silent dispatch. and stay with the old format of doing the jobs.

also does all the units have the MDT's

No... most other operation is NOT silent. Being that MICCOM is a simplex system with an extensive system of receivers, unless you are within "x" amount of miles from a mobile unit on a truck radio or portable, you will not be able to receive them. This does not mean they are not talking. Most operations occur off the MICCOM dispatch channel, however. After dispatch, the assigned unit will utilize a secondary, tertiary, or other radio to communicate with the PSDP (Public Safety Dispatch Point) that they are enroute to.

CENCOM has the same setup. As MFR stated, you have to be close to hear them. I believe it's called a steered voter system.

I know when CENCOM dispatches the signal is steered toward the unit's coverage area. If you live in the area of Morristown you will not hear dispatches directed towards Dover. At least I don't, but all I use is a stock uniden antenna.
